Plant Operative (GR1018)

Purpose of job

The Plant Operative is responsible for carrying out plant operations safely, efficiently, and to the required specification. The role ensures that works activities are delivered to the highest standards of quality, safety, and compliance, supporting the wider operational teams across Griffiths. The postholder will undertake plant operations, routine maintenance, safety checks, and contribute to the effective completion of construction activities.

Principal Accountability

The Plant Operative is accountable for:

  • Operating plant and equipment safely and competently in accordance with training, legislation, and company procedures
  • Completing daily pre-use checks and equipment inspections
  • Maintaining plant condition through routine upkeep and reporting defects promptly
  • Supporting safe systems of work and maintaining compliance with Health & Safety requirements
  • Providing accurate timesheet information and ensuring proper authorisation by site management

Detailed Responsibilities

A Plant Operative  is responsible for, but not limited to, the following for project (s):

  • Health, Safety & Compliance: Comply with all Company Health & Safety policies, procedures, roles and responsibilities.Understand and apply the control measures required to safely manage construction-related risks.Take personal responsibility for own safety and the safety of others who may be affected by work activities.
  • Plant Operation & Maintenance: Carry out safe and efficient operation of plant and machinery in line with training and competency. Complete and maintain daily pre-use checks, safety inspections, and associated documentation. Report any defects or issues with plant promptly to the Plant Trainer or Site Management Team
  • Operational Support: Deliver plant operations in accordance with agreed programmes, specifications, and quality expectations. Work collaboratively with site teams to support the safe and efficient delivery of project works. Support productivity on site through proactive communication, teamwork, and problem-solving

Required experience, knowledge, qualifications, and training

  • Experience as a Plant Operative with demonstrated competence in plant operation
  • Prior experience in machine control systems
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team
  • Self-motivated with a proactive approach to safe and efficient working
  • Valid MPQC or CPCS Card (mandatory for the role)/NPORS card with a CSCS logo

Desirable experience, qualifications, and training

  • Experience operating plant across civil engineering projects.
  • Ability to work across multiple site locations when required.
  • Experience working within large, multi-disciplinary construction teams.
