Responsible for being the Design Management and Technical Engineering lead to Geotechnical Team portfolio of projects. Accountable to the Head of Geotechnical whilst reporting to the Contracts Manager for day-to-day management support.

The Design Manager is accountable for, but not limited to, the following:
• Provide technical expertise, support and advice on all projects within the Geotechnical Team portfolio.
• Support ECI process on projects where options development and appraisal are required by the client.
• Fulfil lead engineering role on all projects assigned, incl. being accountable for design management and change, quality assurance and control, and Temporary Works.
• Liaison with Client, Principal Designers, Designers, Sub-Contractors and other disciplines as required (incl. for both Permanent and Temporary Works).
• Ensure the policies and procedures of the Business Management System are fully discharged
• Promote and maintain effective client/stakeholder relationships to protect and enhance the company’s reputation to help enable repeat business
• Uphold the core company values, inspire and encourage the same throughout the team
The Design Manager is responsible for, but not limited to, the following:
• Ensure you follow the requirements of the company handbook
• Managing design development and the production of suitable designs for all assigned projects and tender opportunities, incl. TQ processes, design integration and clash detection, communicating changes to the project teams and maintaining all live CDM documentation.
• Producing and managing the production of key CDM documentation, incl. Construction Phase Plans, Risk Assessments and Method Statements, Quality Management Plans,
• Managing Temporary Works on all assigned projects, incl. producing and maintaining TW Briefs, Checks, Registers and Permits
• Producing detailed construction staging diagrams for tenders and live projects, ensuring these are integrated into key CDM documentation and relay the important Design, Temporary Works and Quality Assurance hold points required within the construction phase.
• Setup and chair design review meetings for all assigned projects
• Provide support for tender processes including review of pre-tender information, planning, estimating and quality submissions
• Compliance with CDM 2015 at all times
• Maintain technical knowledge and status in line with post
• Any other duties commensurate with the grade and level of responsibility of this post, for which the post holder has the necessary experience and/or training to fulfil
• Taking care of your own health and safety, and others who might be affected by your actions
• Proactively engaging the Close Call reporting system, reporting anything that you see which is likely to endanger either your own safety or others’ health and safety
• Support where required accident, incident investigations
• BSc Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or Civil Engineering with Geotechnical bias
• Ideally have around 6-10 years’ experience in a similar role, but any other relevant experience may also be taken into consideration
• SMSTS
• TWC
• Excellent leadership, communication and IT skills
• Relevant CSCS card
• Relevant professional membership
• Site Management experience
• Key geotechnical experience, overseeing soil nailing, rock bolting, piling, earthworks and/or other key geotechnical activities
• Appointed Person (lifting operations)
• Working knowledge of Project and Commercial Management, incl. production of project programmes, material take-offs and procurement, cost forecasts, payment applications etc.
